Compliance expert Norbert Kugele will discuss data retention requirements under the FRCP, including:

  • The risks of improper data retention
  • What data should be retained
  • How long records should be retained
  • How other regulations affect preservation obligations

Presenters and Panelists

Daniel Estrada has been working in the technology field for over ten years. He has given presentations on a number of IT topics, both nationally and abroad, including American and European information security regulations, wireless security, and electronic discovery. In addition, Daniel has provided technical recommendations to management groups at large corporations such as IBM and Steelcase.

Daniel is President of D.C. Estrada Information Technology, a consulting firm that offers legal technology intelligence to Michigan law firms and in-house counsel. D.C. Estrada helps attorneys and their clients manage legal technology issues, including electronic discovery, litigation preparedness, and policy implementation.

Faith M. Heikkila is the Great Lakes Regional Security Services Manager for Pivot Group and currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Information Systems – Nova Southeastern University specializing in information assurance. She has over 18 years of paralegal and IT Project Management experience with two law firms in Michigan. Her litigation experience included the production of more than 15 million documents in a number of cases as a complex litigation paralegal.

Faith has evaluated and performed ISO 17799 and ISO 27002 gap analyses, information security policy and procedures reviews, risk assessments, and vulnerability assessments of client networks. She has published a number of articles and papers about e-discovery and information security. She has also given presentations for various professional organizations and trade groups around the country.

Norbert Kugele is a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP. He specializes in the area of privacy and information security law, working with large and small companies, public school districts, colleges and universities, and nonprofit organizations. Norbert also works with organizations of all sizes on understanding and complying with state, federal and international privacy and information security laws, understanding risk assessments, and responding to security breach incidents.

Norbert has been an instructor at numerous in-house, firm-sponsored, and professional association seminars on HIPAA privacy and security compliance for employers, Medicare Part D compliance issues for health plan sponsors, COBRA administration, executive compensation, and ERISA compliance issues. He has authored numerous articles on HIPAA privacy and security issues, structuring of wellness programs, tax code compliance problems for executive compensation arrangements, and electronic delivery of benefit disclosure documents.
